IDSHS is dedicated to inspecting and studbook registering Irish Draught and Irish Sport Horses. This guide provides a quick overview of the pedigree requirements for studbook registration. For complete details, please refer to the full Operating Regulations on our Members Page.
Basic Eligibility for InspectionTo be inspected, all horses must have verifiable Registered Irish Draught (RID or Class 1 or 2) blood.
Eligibility Criteria for Studbook RegistrationMares (3 years and older):
Colts and Stallions (3 years and older):
Special CasesWhile we don't recommend breeding horses that have not passed their studbook inspection, we respect the mare owner's choice in selecting a breeding horse. We recognise that even if a stallion or mare has failed inspection, the resulting foal still possesses Irish blood and should be acknowledged as an Irish Sport Horse.
Although we advise against breeding horses that have failed inspection or their progeny, we understand that these horses can still be exceptional equestrian partners due to the outstanding qualities of the breed. Our role is to educate and provide guidance, not to dictate decisions. To maintain transparency, your horse's registration will indicate if the sire or dam did not pass inspection, ensuring that future buyers have all the necessary information.
